May 7-8, 2016
USA Freestyle Kayaking has awarded the Reno River Festival the 2016 U.S. National Whitewater Freestyle Championships. This event will bring the best kayakers in the country to the Truckee River Whitewater Park for the nation’s biggest competition of the year.
Last year, for the first time in the 12-year history of the Reno River Festival, the whitewater events were canceled because there was not enough water. Liquid Blue Events co-owner and founder Jess Horning is thrilled to announce that, with the return of winter this year, the festival will come back with a vengeance.
Horning says, “To transition from canceling the whitewater events in 2015 to bringing in the largest kayaking event in the country in 2016 will re-establish downtown Reno as one of the top whitewater parks in the world. We are excited for the opportunity and even more excited for our community.”
The festival returns with a splash to kick-off Northern Nevada’s event season Mother’s Day weekend, May 7th and 8th. This will be the first time Northern Nevada has hosted the nationals. It is the can’t miss competitive kayaking event of the year.
The Reno River Festival is more than just a celebration of the Truckee River. It boasts something for everyone.
The Adventure Park features rides and obstacles including the Truckee River Zipline, Mega Rock Walls, The Giant Roaring River Slide and Human Hamster Balls.
|At the Craft Beer Village, you can sample more than a couple dozen different craft beers while enjoying the amazing views from the point of the peninsula of the Truckee River. This is a true outdoor bar setting featuring music, tables, chairs and, of course, beer.|
Smuggler’s Village has more than 100 different shops that sell everything from handmade crafts to popular retail items.
Vendors in the Pub N Grub Village will be serving up gourmet hot dogs, tacos, burgers, fried chicken, food on a stick, candy popcorn and much more.
And don’t forget the live entertainment. In recent years, the music line-up has featured up and coming and established national recording artists. The festival was headlined by RCA’s Old Dominion in 2014 and BMG’s Clare Dunn in 2015. Both artists have multiple top 10 country music hits. The Reno River Festival is currently working on a 2016 lineup that will be the biggest and best yet. Details to come soon.
