An ICF instructor trainer certification seminar will take place at NOC in North Carolina on April 12-15; checking in on 4/12 by noon checking out 4/15 before lunch. This is the week immediately preceding the NOC Shootout. Any judge interested in judging at the World Championships will need to be at this seminar. There is a 12 person cap on the number of people attending. Justin will be leading the seminar and Jasper Polak, Chief Judge from the 2009 World Championships, will also be attending.

People who receive an ‘A” rating will then also be a certifying instructor for USACK and can lead judges training seminars throughout the year.

Keep in mind that although we may have some Worlds athletes attending the seminar, they cannot judge at the Worlds so I would like to be sure we try to fill the spots with non-competing athletes first.

The plane ticket to Germany is paid for through fundraisers the USFKA is conducting. Once you arrive, your food and lodging is covered. There is no pay, judging at the Worlds is a volunteer position. You would need to be in Germany from June 18-26.

Judges who will be judging at the Worlds will ultimately be chosen from the available pool of certified judges by the committee and the yet to be announced chief judge for Plattling.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

Kristine Jackson

(Takoma Park, MD) The 2011 USA Freestyle Team will be wearing a handsome team PFD and honor its commitment to send judges to the World Freestyle Kayaking Championships in Plattling, Germany June 20-26, 2011 thanks to the creativity and enthusiasm of manufacturer Northwest River Supplies (NRS). USA Freestyle Kayaking (USAFK) will receive proceeds from the sale of a special “2011 Worlds Team” edition of its popular Ninja PFD that will help send two ICF – trained US judges to serve the event.

“USAFK is thrilled to have the support of NRS this year,” notes Risa Shimoda, USAFK Chair. “Freestyle is growing as a sport and competitive discipline. Besides fielding an excellent team of athletes, it’s critical for us as a leader in the international paddling community to be represented by trained US judges at the Worlds.”

NRS Sales Manager Josh Davis sees another side to the support for this year’s freestyle team and governing body. “We’re excited to support this newly-energized segment of paddlesports and create a great product that promotes freestyle, and we are also psyched about partnering with USAFK to enhance the NRS brand. We believe in freestyle for its appeal to all ages, especially families and young paddlers.”

US Team members will be outfitted with more than just NRS PFDs. They will each receive a large USA gear bag and paddle bag to take to Germany. Bryan Kirk, veteran US Team Member, 2010 National Men’s K1 Point Series Champion and member of Team NRS, notes “I’ve been proud to represent NRS for years due to the quality of both their products and company staff, and this year’s sponsorship is like icing on the cake.” NRS will have a presence throughout the USAFK Point Series, eleven events culminating with the crowning of 2011 Champs at the Kelly’s Whitewater Park on July 9-10.

Additional USAFK sponsors for 2011 include the American Canoe Association and Mysterioso. USAFK events use ICF approved scoring and judging systems, offer classes for Cadets (under 15) and conduct service events to give back to host communities.
